Our Facilities
The Service Dogs for America training campus consists of a 7,200 square foot training and canine housing facility, 2,000 square feet of exterior kennels, 3,200 square feet of exercise yards, and two client cabins.
Directly across from the main building is the 12,500 square foot Lions Memorial Park, that includes a gazebo and sitting area. These facilities are located on 10 acres of land at the south edge of Jud, North Dakota.
Why Jud, North Dakota?
We are often asked why we are located in Jud, North Dakota. In 1991, Edward W. Duden donated 10 acres to the then Great Plains Assistance Dogs Foundation, Inc. Ed was a long-time resident of Jud, as well as a Lions Club member.
The first capital campaign in 1990 raised $146,000 to build the main training and kennel building. Next it was clear that SDA needed client cabins to house the clients during their on campus training. The first cabin was completed in 1991, and it was soon clear that another cabin was needed.
In 1993, the Ruehle family of California donated the funds to complete a second client cabin. This cabin allows us to house more than one client at a time. We are forever grateful for the generosity of the Ruehle family.
Lions clubs have always been instrumental in the maintenance and growth of our campus. In 1998, the ‘Lions Wing Addition’ was completed, adding 3,200 square feet to our main training facility. The project funds were raised by the Rural Economic Community Development, Lions Club International, several local Lions Clubs, and individual donors.
In 2008, the North Star Lions of Bismarck took over the renovation and furnishing of our first client cabin. We are grateful for their many contributions.
Client Cabins
The cabins give our guests a home for their time with us in Jud. Each cabin includes a kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom, complete with washer and dryer.
